Greers Ferry October

October Forecast:

Hello All!  Fall has arrived here on Greers Ferry.  Water surface
temperatures will range in the lower 70's and down into the 60's.
During September we experienced quite a few great days of catching on
the water.  Locating large schools of shad was our key to success.  I
am looking at October to play out the very same way, find the bait and
you have found the fish.  Although the very best locations may vary
from day to day, your techniques and presentations should remain
relatively simple and basic for most all species in the reservoir.
Fish are active and on the move right now.

Schooling whites and hybrids will gain a lot of attention this month
as traditionally October is regarded as the very best month for
surfacing fish.  Stable weather patterns will fish best when coupled
with falling surface temperatures.  Main lake fish in the both the
North and south Basin will be more pressured than fish in the creeks
and pockets, making them at times more difficult to catch for longer
periods.  Fish Dinner Lures line of Custom In-Line Spinners along with
Lake Fork tackles line of Soft Plastic Jerk baits, which can be found
at Fish`N Stuff and Golden Outdoors, you will have no problem keeping
your rods bent.  With extended feeding times and being able to
physically see your quarry this month it's an exciting time to visit
the home of the World Record Hybrid Striper of 27lbs 04ozs., Greers
Ferry Lake.

As fall kicks into gear lot's of Bass Tournaments will be held here at
Greers Ferry.  This is great for the fish and the fisherman as catch
rates and physical surveys of fish living here will be recorded to
benefit the reservoir for both the  present and the future.  It's
imperative this month to cover lot's of water and do lot's of looking
before ever making a cast.  Locating large concentrations of bait in
both open water and around cover will be key to bigger bags at the
scales.  Minnow imitating lures fished high in the column should be
utilized while using both your eyes and your electronics to dictate
where you fish.  Look for shad shallow in the mornings while sliding a
little deeper as mid day approaches harboring feeding schools of
Kentucky's, Largemouth and Smallmouth throughout the day.

Our Walleyes here on Greers Ferry will be making a surge this month
while feeding higher in the column and targeting wounded or dying bait
fish.  Swim baits, Jerkbaits, Spoons and Live Bait rigs will all
account for fish as they will still be slightly scattered with the
bait.  As water temperatures get into the mid 60's look for a huge
increase in daily catches.  I prefer wooded creek ledges with lot's of
cover along with flat points on the main  lake with the river channel
turning into them.  Early morning and on low ceiling days utilize your
hard and soft plastic minnow style options, while on bright days and
on up in the mornings go to a live crawler on a drop shot rig.

October is flat out one of the best month to be on the reservoir.
Migrating Fowl, Lot's of Surfacing Fish and The Great times to be had

Greers Ferry Fishing Report

Water Surface temperatures are starting to really fall off quickly.  We are now seeing water temps in the 70's.  This is excellent for our bite here in the coming days and into the next week.  Once water temperatures level off and this moon gets out of here shad movement will slow and fish will start feeding at greater depths on smaller, more spread out bait within there current locations.

Channel Swings into Main Lake Flats with timber are holding very large concentrations of hybrids and white bass right now. Early and into mid day these fish will come quite a distance to hit a top water or sub-surface bait.   The spoon bite is good and will only improve as these fish transition from morning to mid day locations in the water column, generally going deeper as the morning progresses.  With this being said, there will still be mobs of fish pushing shad to the surface all throughout the day.  Fish Dinner Shad Spoons, In-Line Spinners, Lake Fork Tackle Swimin Slug and a Sammy style bait will fish you from top to bottom.  Check out Golden Outdoors in Heber Springs and Fish N` Stuff in Greers Ferry to find all of these baits.

Our Bronze Backs are concentrating themselves in the guts or ditches that feed our flats.  Some of these fish are willing to come up and chase surface baits.  However, with bright skies and clearing water conditions  most have been caught in 12 - 22 feet of water hugging close to the bottom.  Slow rolled blades, Swim baits and Grubs are producing nice fish of 2lbs or better.

Recently we have had a lot of fun picking on the spotted bass.  These fish are really abundant and spread out over the reservoir in good numbers.  Location on the lake will dictate where these fish will school.  Shad and Bait fish of course will determine 90% of there location.  Unlike our largemouth bass our Kentucky's are not cover oriented.  As long as they have food and depth in a location they will hold and take advantage of the forage available.  My very favorite technique for catching these fish is a live night crawler on a drop-shot rig.  Utilizing your electronics to locate individual fish or small schools of fish and then catching the exact fish you see on the graph is quite addictive and productive most days.  If live bait is not an option for you go with a small finesse worm or minnow imitation.  If your in Heber, stop by Heber Fuel Depot and pick your crawlers up from the "Live Bait" vending machine located in the front of the station and is open 24 hours a day.

With the water cooling and overall fish activity picking up in a hurry, there is no better time to be on Greers Ferry wetting a hook!  Lot's of multi-species action, catches of up to 8 and even 10 different species on morning and afternoon trips.  With limited availability through the fall call or email to book your trip now.  If you have any question's regarding this report or would like more information about Fish Greers Ferry Guide Service please call (501)691-5701 or email at fishgreersferry@gmail.com  Good Fishin` Cody S.
