Greers Ferry Fishing Report 4/23/2013

Greers Ferry is currently five inches over normal pool of 462.04.  The bite really depends on the species and the day although catch rates are average to good across most of the reservoir.  Water temperatures are finally stabilizing in the lower 60's and fish are responding well. White bass are really good both in the creeks and rivers on swim baits and The Cindy K Spinner.  Crappie are in front of the bushes out to 35 feet of water and have been eating small to medium shiners.  Small mouth are on a terror once you locate them and get your timing right.  Some bigger Bronze Backs are coming off the spawn and starting to eat moving baits well.  Largemouth are in the spawn and pre spawn stages with select creeks and pockets holding more spawning fish than others on any given day.  The best bite on the reservoir is still to come for the walleyes.  I've been catching a few each trip from the bushes out to 32 feet, they are still not schooled up in there feeding location's adjacent to there spawning areas yet but it's coming.

Greers Ferry Fishing Report 4/02/2013

Greers Ferry is currently lagging with water temperatures but the
bight is still on with many species, they are just not quite where
they should be by this time of year (typical spawning locations).
Water surface temperatures are varying significantly by location and
time of day on reservoir, anywhere from 49 - 58 degrees.  Right now we
have got pre spawn Largemouth, Ky's, Small mouth, Crappie and White
Bass with post spawn walleyes.  I really think we are going to get a
huge wave of spawners with the full moon this month and leading up to
it should prove to be some of the best fishing of the year.  I have
cleaned and cut a variety of species including lot's of Crappies and
Ky's.  All of the Females I've cleaned are full of eggs that appear to
be a few weeks off from being ready, however the fish are trying to
move shallow but are positioning themselves in the most stable water
which happens to be the upper 15 feet of the column no matter the
depth.  The shallow crappie bite is getting better day by day despite
the roller coaster of weather we've seen thus far.  Mostly all males
from 0 - 10 feet with a good mix of both females and males coming out
of deeper water by the trollers.  Limits of crappie are out there but
the bight seems to change by the hour.  I've had the best luck fishing
single and double jig rigs under a slip bobber with my presentation
and depth changing according to the condition's.  Red/Chart,
White/Chart, Glow and Purple/Hot Orange being my go to colors.
