May 15, 2011 Report
Well we've finally crested and started to fall....This sets us up for awesome fishing over the coming weeks and months. With the high water and new cover available for the fry of all species we should see an abundance of bait fish and 2011 class game fish should be well fed here on Greers Ferry. The bite over the past couple of weeks has been up and down. We have had some really unbelievable days mixed in with average to below average results for most all species. Overall the reservoir has fished quite well considering the extra 19 feet of water. Now that we are on a fall I look for the bite to really explode once again across the board. As we near the end of this month and edge towards June look for our Catfish to start pushing shallow on both the main lake and in the creeks. Our walleye population is split between new cover with the added water and old structure break lines off of main lake flats. I've found them from 16 - 42 feet deep. The most consistent action for my eyes has been in the 18 - 26 foot zone around new or old big woody cover on structure breaks.. We are starting to see more and more whites and hybrids move out to main lake flats and set up in there summer locations. I am already looking forward to this summers white and hybrid bite, Last year we saw days of 100 fish or more for quite some time. If your considering fishing Greers Ferry for Hybrids start booking now to secure your date. The bronze backs are holding deeper, as they normally do, however with good wind and clouds I'm seeing some schooling action out in the flats. Good Smallmouth in the 2 - 3.5lb class are showing up most every trip out. I'll be out most everyday and will report what I find over the coming days. If you would like to book a trip on the water please email or call and I will get back with you as soon as I'm off the water. Good Fishin` Cody S. Smith
